It’s a ton of work opening up any business, but a 100,000-square-foot medical center is a greater feat than most. While professionals at the offices of Baylor Scott & White Health wanted to incorporate a well-coordinated look throughout its new building in Dallas, Texas, it also wanted to give each of the dozen medical practices within the space its own unique flair. Fortunately for them, NBF Regional Sales Manager Rusty Jenkins and Healthcare Sales Manager Joanna Terry were there every step of the way, from selecting chair upholsteries to creating detailed space plans.
“With 12 different medical practices to work with in 100,000 square feet of space, the toughest part was giving each practice the unique look they wanted while still conforming to the uniformity that Baylor Scott & White Health required throughout the building. By pre-selecting the furniture and offering a variety of styles and upholstery options with a coordinating look, we were able to narrow the choices and get each practice a finished product they could love," Jenkins said.
With Terry's and Jenkins's help, Baylor Scott & White Health was able to create the look and the functionality they needed in their new offices via the right healthcare furniture and the right space planning.
Waiting Rooms
This building has plenty of waiting area space to go around, and that means the right furniture and careful space planning was needed to fill each room in a manner that would be both practical and safe. The team at Baylor Scott & White Health wanted to achieve a matching look in all of the public seating areas throughout the building while allowing each individual waiting area to have its own unique style. To achieve this, Jenkins and Terry outfitted most waiting areas with National Acquaint tables and chairs that have the same construction, but used slightly different upholstery patterns and back styles. Black overlays on chair arms are made of urethane for comfort and to make the chairs last longer.
In addition to Acquaint chairs with arms, the space was also equipped with armless options, benches and bariatric chairs so that guests have a choice as to what type of chair they would like to sit in while they wait. Not only are seating options greatly varied to provide ample options for guests, but they are also offered in such a variety so that guests who must use bariatric seating options don’t have unwanted attention drawn to them. All of the seating in these spacious waiting rooms have been designed by NBF’s in-house space planning team to face either the check-in desk or the area where healthcare providers enter the room, making the waiting experience less stressful and easier for everyone involved.
One of the offices in the Baylor, Scott & White Health building, Signature Medicine, wanted to create a more luxurious look in its reception area. Thus, the space was outfitted with soft seating that features plush padding and eye-catching metallic upholstery. A warm color palette gives the space a refined look, greeting guests in style. Joanna Terry, Healthcare Sales Manager for NBF, commented on the product knowledge and industry experience needed to furnish a facility of this size.
“One of the most important things in executing a project of this scale is ensuring that we use the right products. Rusty worked with our vendor partners to deliver items that are beautiful, durable and safe. They fit the needs of the current providers, but also provide flexibility as needs and technology change in the future” Terry said.
Exam Rooms
The same warm and welcoming look expressed in the waiting areas of the facility are carried through into the exam rooms. In these rooms, Brewer exam tables and doctor stools make the space easy for both care provider and patient to use while keeping the space as hygienic as can be. Guest chairs upholstered in easy-to-clean vinyl are also provided for patients and family members to sit in while talking with their care provider.
Offices
The many private offices within Baylor Scott & White Health are outfitted with desks and storage options from the National Waveworks collection for a contemporary look and modern functionality. The guest chairs in these private offices match those in the rest of the building, being either from National’s Tag or Acquaint collections. A breakroom is designed with white furniture from National’s Waveworks and Cinch collections to bring a modern edge to the space while keeping the lunchroom easy to clean. Lab areas are designed using Global Evolve panels and Vion chairs for style and support.
Though it has been a year in the making, Baylor Scott & White Health’s newly designed facility has been well worth the wait. This project goes to show that office furniture can be up to a healthcare facility’s rigorous standards while still boasting a high-style design that will make visitors feel at home.
