Ah, the joys of teleconferencing! It certainly can be convenient for when you’re traveling for business or pulled away from the office for personal reasons, but there are some things to consider before you dial in.

Show Up

Have you ever heard the saying that 80% of success is showing up? Well that is especially true for conference calls. It can be easy to zone out or perhaps get distracted if you aren’t adequately prepared. Go to a quiet space and avoid multi-tasking if you can. Be sure to still act and look professional, regardless of what setting you may be in. Your attire and actions are sure to affect your attitude and demeanor.

Go to a Quiet Place

Yes, we know we mentioned it already, but it's worth calling out again. The last thing you want is for your dog to be barking up a storm in the background or some other distracting noise sounding off. Not only is it distracting for you, but also for all of those on the other end of the call.

Consider a Media Table

Media tables allow for seamless teleconferencing and are designed to make these types of meetings much more interactive and enjoyable.

Speak Clearly

This is just something to keep in mind as whoever is calling in will have a much easier time hearing you if you do so – especially if you aren’t very close to the speaker. When you aren't speaking, mute your phone so that co-workers on the other end don't get drowned out by static.

Be Sure to Provide Call-in Numbers

Every meeting should have a call-in number set up so that all can teleconference. Be sure to provide a number for each meeting you set up, whether you think it will be needed or not. This approach allows for you to avoid having to do a last minute scramble before the meeting to ensure that everyone can attend.
